NBC Or Netflix: whom do you rely upon? There is a fistfight between NBC and Netflix’s viewership.
NBC is basically the Television Broadcasting Company, i.e. it is a platform for American English-language commercial radio and television networks.
It has its app where you can streamline your favourite TV shows. We all already know a lot about Netflix – it is a production company which enables you to watch TV series and movies on your selected device.
To give a tougher fight to Netflix, NBCUniversal is gearing up for its SVOD service and is all set to roll it out in April 2020.
The platform is being designed to boast its own ad-supported originals, enabling the viewers to see it for free provided they already have NBC cable customers.
The streaming service of NBCU has been named as Peacock which is supposed to be a competitor to Netflix.
NBC Vs Netflix
Well, even before the launch of Peacock, the fight has already begun between the two as Peacock is all prepping for the reboot of its own hit sitcom “The Office.” This sitcom is one of the most-watched shows on Netflix and NBC Universal wants it to remove it from Netflix and feed its content to their platform.
This has become a headache for Netflix as its huge audience of the show might shift to peacock after it loses its most-watched program. According to the reports, “The Office” is supposed to move from Netflix to Peacock in 2021.
Netflix, however, is flooded with its original programs, but according to a data, 72% of the entire watch minutes comprise of the people watching its non-original shows.
This is a cause of worry for Netflix. The NBCU’s old hits such as “Parks and Recreation,” “Friends”, etc., are the kind of shows which people love watching over and over again.
Over a 12-month period, NBCU’s show “The Office” accounted for 45.8 billion minutes watchtime on Netflix, in comparison to the Netflix’s original “Stranger Things,” which clocked in at 27.6 billion minutes.
Netflix’s Chief executive officer, Reed Hastings, suggest that Netflix has been long expecting to lose its library content and it is kind of ready for.
The company claims that people value Netflix more for its original content and the rate of viewership of their original ones are continuously growing.
Definitely, the next phase of growth for Netflix is likely to be more challenging. It is already in a pressure to develop original hits. With the introduction of Peacock, the subscriber base is likely to get split. However, Netflix is thinking bigger to secure its position. While NBCU, that you have subscribed via nbc.com/activate platform, is likely to emerge as its competitor, Netflix is all set to expand its market by stealing share from gaming, sleep, and intimacy. is likely to emerge as its competitor, Netflix is all set to expand its market by stealing share from gaming, sleep, and intimacy.
Thus, Peacock or no Peacock, Netflix is definitely determined to stay in the league for long!
